I listened to the speech the commanding
officer made ,an marveled at the fact
he could say it with conviction
an a straight face
though at times some blood is spilt
to correct some intolerable wrong,
our souls will become more pure,
as we aim toward a higher good.
what a crock of shit
our souls will become more pure ?
I have killed in the name of country
but never a god
indifferent and defiant committed to
only those I love
when need commands rules are
made to be bent,
sometimes loyalty is betrayed
the truth trampled into the ground
Yet I've never grovelled for the things
I have done
but I have no illusions on having
a pure soul
