a thing I think every father wants

I was abandoned to the world of men when I was young.
I know little of the love between father and son
an even less of a true love between a man and a woman
but fate has smiled at me at last an given me a son
an I for one will not turn my back on her
I will not repay good luck with bad grace. It invites darkness
I shall not attempt to teach the things I know of nothing
instead I shall teach him of the injustices an horrors I have seen
that men speak conveniently of peace when it serves their purpose.
but they fall back to the use of war
love is a word of many meanings but used
more to gain entry to a woman's skirt
I will teach him the true price of freedom, In tyranny lies only failure
armed with such knowledge
He can go forth to become a better man than I
a thing I think every father wants
