there's a gentle breeze blowing through the night
It whispers through the grass 
sending ripples across the colorado waters 
dew glistens on the grass in the dawn's early light
you listen to the sounds all around you and eternally 
wonder if it's true the lord's presence all around.

I watch a graceful butterfly drying his wings in the sun 
before he takes to flight
It takes my breath away.
ah the autumn leaves in their splendor 
there's a sadness as you watch the dying 
falling gently to the ground 
but you know they'll be back come a warm spring morning
I watch her sleeping and know I should wake her 
but I can't
I watch the sun reflecting off her brown hair
the glow of an innocent child at peace 
that will leave the moment she awakens
somewhere down the line like me she's seen 
the monster too
I don't know why but there's a sadness in my heart that aches 
for I know this will be the last time 
we together will sleep where peaceful waters flow
call it a premonition if you like
or there's ancient voices in the wind 
belonging to my ancestors of the distant past 
that few ever hear
as much as you love her she's not the one to follow you through you're coming journey 
so fill your heart with this memory 
it will help you get through some trying times
