Last Great Maple 12-14

Folder:
2006

The last leaf falls from the tree

Life the last raindrop of a summer's storm

Gracefully floating down, down, down

Lightly grazing the ground

Playfully fluttering about

Twisting, turning in the wind

The great maple watches

Its skeleton laid bare for all the world to see

Scratched, hollowed, and broken

Names of lovers past engraved

Laid bare for all the world to see

Cold, hardened soulds once joyful

The great maple watches

Day by day glee turns misery

Twisting, turning in the wind

Flee from such great misfortune

Playfully fluttering about

Tomorrow the hatchet falls

Lightly grazing the ground

The very first branch collapses

Gracefully floating down, down, down

Years of memory quickly dishearten

Like the last raindrop of a summer's storm

The last great maple falls from the sky

Author's Notes/Comments:

An interesting form. This was a fun poem to write and to think about analyzing. =)
