Takeoffs and Transitions

I can still remember

That exact second when I left

I packed my bags and raced to the horizon

Without a single care or regret

I can still remember

Those tears in your eye

You’ve always know my dear

How much I hate to see you cry

But I promised to be back in your arms

Before those tears hit the ground

I know the rainstorms are pouring in your head

And I’m still nowhere to be found

It’s kind of cute in a strange sort of way

How we’re feigning that we’re both fine

Just always remember, that no matter how far the distance

That you will always be mine

I just had to run away

Without ever knowing what I was even running from

You said to stay

With you on the ground, but I had to try and touch the sun

I just had to get away

From whatever I’ve become

Maybe some other day

We can go back to square one

Yea, that’d be fun

I can still envision

That precise moment when you left

You packed my heart in a bag and sprinted to the door

Without an ounce of sorrow or lament

I hope you can still remember

Those tears in my eye

All my friends are gone

And I’m alone to just wonder “why”

But you promised to be back in my life

Before the sun escaped from the sky

Well now the moon is shining bright

And I feel like I’m about to die

It’s kind of fitting in a sick sort of way

How we’re pretending that we’re both doing alright

Just always remember, that no matter how dark and cold the world may be

That the stars shine for me and you tonight

You just had to run away

Without ever knowing what you were even running from

I said to stay

With me on the ground, but you had to try and touch the sun

You just had to get away

From whatever you’ve become

Maybe some other day

We can go back to square one

Yea, wouldn’t that be fun

So I wipe my eyes and look up to the sky tonight

It makes me wonder how the moon could shine that bright

And then I remembered that it steals the light from that big ball of fire for free

It strangely similar to what you used to do to me

But we’re only human, everyone deserves a second chance

The ground is trembling below our feet, but we still have time to dance

I hope you’re looking up to that same sky tonight

And we can be alone, together, while sharing this spectacular sight

We just had to run away

Without ever knowing what we were even running from

They said to stay

With them on the ground, but we had to try and touch the sun

We just had to get away

From whatever we’ve become

Maybe some other day

We can go back to square one

Yea, I think that’d be fun
