She swears up and down that the gaslight has dimmed
When it's clearly shining brighter to him.
The only person in their right mind
Is the one whose memory gets left behind
Abused yet responsible, dysfunction becomes
Words cried from the rooftops mum
Take love, for instance, it isn't at all
What brings us together, it's how people fall
The glow of a gaslight that burns over time
Cannot expose a fictitious crime
Or validate an account overdue
Or prove false what she saw true
He knows in his heart, that he never lied
He loved and protected, and kept satisfied
Her body to hold, and caress and to feel
Unfortunately her mind wasn't part of the deal
