Wedding to remember

It was Lorena’s & José’s wedding. People all agreed it was a good wedding one of those you never get to forget.

Lorena looked extra cute that day, she decides to wear high heels so I guess she must love José, I’m kidding that was obvious; many guests couldn’t take their eyes off her.

Her white wedding dress matches so beautifully her red hair. Simply stunning.

“Look at you.” I said to her.

Lorena tried to force a smile, she was so nervous. She finally said: “Uum Cyntia I think…”

“What’s wrong?” I asked super worried.

Lorena shake her head kind of confused and told me: “I guess it´s my big day!”

Lorena’s father came along extending his arm to her. “It’s time now. Shall we?”

The wedding music started playing. She walked down the aisle together with her father. At the other end of the aisle stood José. He was smiling as all well the guests. The priest started the celebration and it was lovely, full of sweets thoughts.

At the wedding reception, Juan the photographer (my brother) took some pictures of the newlyweds. Just a bunch of those cheesy pictures were Lorena held her arms into José´s neck and little kisses.

The band started the music and I was just thinking to myself: “Lorena cannot dance! Also she hates to dance. This whole Lorena´s wedding thing it´s too weird for me, for her!”

I missed the first dance of the newlyweds because I was so immersed into my own thoughts, but when completed all quests applauded with a big smile on their faces, not laughing so I guess it was a good dance.

I just went to grab my dance partner and to open the dance floor with the new bride and groom. After some songs people went to their places, it was time to have a fancy dinner.

All guests were in their sits and the newlyweds were on their main fancy full of flowers table. Too much flowers for Lorena´s taste anyway José insisted on having them.

Suddenly a certain acoustic melody began to hear, something familiar for me. The stage were the band is supposed to be just opened and oh! Surprise, the band wasn´t at the back. Actually who was about to sing was Carlos, Lorena´s first love. What was happening? Does Lorena invited him? What in earth is he doing playing a song at his ex-girlfriend wedding? Is José realizing who he is?

Carlos was Lorena´s boyfriend since high school until four years ago when he began his relationship with José. Carlos's greatest dream was to go travel to India to volunteer to implement a program for children's health. His dreams fulfilled but he had to leave Lorena because their personal plans did not coincide.

Only Lorena was gazing at Carlos. He raised his head and looked at her; their eyes locked together.

Carlos started singing:

Baby, baby yeah, are you listenin?

Wondering, where you've been, all my life

I just started living

I was in complete shock! Apparently Lorena and I were the only humans in the room who knows who´s him, the quests fell into dead silence. Everyone turned to the stage.

When you say you love me

Know I love you more

When you say you need me

Know I need you more

I adore you,

Tears came into Lorena’s eyes. She remembered the first time Carlos sang this song to her. He was smiling then. It was right after she said those words to him that sent him to ecstasy.

Images from the past flashed before Lorena’s eyes: Carlos looked at her in admiration while she made up in her mind pictures of them being coworkers, baking a cake, making Christmas dinner, riding bikes, watching movies, also the way he looked at her when he was listening to her…

A teardrop fell. Jessica quickly wiped her face. She remembered the moment she left him standing on the street. He stood there motionless. She never turned back; she couldn’t bear to ruin his dream because of her.

The music paused. The room was so quiet.

When you say you love me.

No I love you more.

For a while nobody moved. Then the audience gave him a big applause; people surrounded Carlos, and told him compliments.

Carlos didn’t respond to anyone around him. He was looking at Lorena. Like waiting her to come into his arms and scape together, but that didn´t happen.

Carlos left.

“Didn’t I say this is the best wedding or what?” José gave a toast, everyone laughed and said: “Cheers!”
