Mortal Me
Open my eyes to wake once upon a time
take in the sights to see
hear a new song
hold a whisper in my ear
it's only a matter of time for
mortal me
Holding hands
shedding tears
watching the sunset on the beach
sands of time fall and gather
this time is only what is made of it
mortal me
I grew up once upon a time
even though I said I never would
who would guess the adults we would become
and one day we might hold children of our own
and they will grow as we did
for all the days we are given
for all the days we share
a blessing they be
One day I held you in my arms
and another day I pressed those lips to mine
I thought time stood still
but it never does
mortal me
The time we have together may be short or long
We can't count the days or years
Though in our hearts might live a love of immortality
the body only knows ashes to ashes
dust to dust
mortal me
I give you a piece of my soul to hold
to guard and cherish
because one day my heart will fade
the beats will slow
and the case will wither
and when it stops
the shell that was once my body will fall
and lay 6 feet below earth's dust
What once was is sometimes forgotten
time plays this trick you see
this is not always to be
the other lives you've touched
is what takes you beyond mortality
They say you can live on in another's heart
stay alive in their memories
remember that time
we held hands
watching the sunset on the beach
that time I held you in my arms
I whispered in your ear
you pressed your lips to mine
Immortal me
