If it were possible to hold a draft

Of what you say up to the light

The truth would shine through

Author's Notes/Comments: 

A palimpsest is a type of manuscript.  When manuscripts were written on vellum, sometimes a layer would be shaved off of an old manuscript, and new one would be written on the same vellum.  Sometimes, the old manuscript would shine through.
