Tender Body Tinderbox

The fire shone across your irises

Making them like sequins

Stolen from the sun’s gown

And my body felt

As if those embers

That typically fizzle into nothing

On their journey to the sky

Travelled into me

Turned my veins into twigs

My bones into logs

And burned, burned, burned

My chest still smolders

Waiting for the tiniest spark

A fleeting speck of flame

To turn this fleshly tinderbox

Into an inferno

That renews my soul

Like a brush fire rejuvenates a forest
