A Humble Pair

What are two who think as one

  who pray, praise, cry and hurt,

    and together weep, but apart they shun

      the ways of this world and those who fall;

They look to that city that descends from above,

  where the Lord of Hosts reigns over all.

What are two who work and toil,

  who spend their lives to till His soil;

To reach for those who may be lost,

  and those who never heard the cost

    He paid to Him on our behalf,

      and saved them from the flames;

That in the end more would be His

  than played the devils games.

What are two who sacrifice,

  themselves for others near;

To think it not robbery to pay the price,

  that other ones might hear,

    the message of the gospel

       that some think foolishness;

But to those of us who love the Lord,

  reveal to us eternal bliss.

Who are we, that in the end,

  look back and count the cost,

    and see the whole of all that’s gained,

      is greater than what was lost.

For we are they who made the choice

  to follow Him throughout our lives,

    ’Tis only we, a humble pair,

      a husband and a wife.

It is all worth it, in the short term and the long run.
