Innocence lost

Those children you running in the streets,

They are in the past.

Imagination is dead.

Innocence is lost.

Now that child you see eating alone isn’t,

They are accompanied by PewDiePie and Markiplier on their Samsung galaxy.

No longer are they imagining duels with knights and dragons,

But are watching a game play of it on their tablets and phones.

Long gone are the days where bikes and toys were on the Christmas list,

Now it is the new version of the Iphone identical to the last.

It is a time where vivid thoughts are crushed by streamlined content.

Instead of sending them out to play,

You now have to pay for the hottest new app.

Where you hear 5 year olds say they want a new selfie,

“It will look so good on Instagram”.

This is world where Facebook and Twitter rule our kids,

And suffocate their imagination and kill the innocence.

I was a child who would climb trees and play hide and seek,

I would spend long summer days outside until the street lights came on.

That is what children should be doing rather than updating their statuses,

It is something every parent should work towards,

In this case is it better for progress to go back rather than forward.

Only then will children be children again,

Not the mindless drones they have been programmed to be.
