That’s what happened to me. I tried to get fit and healthy and active, but disaster stuck. I got achy. But this is a good news story and, in the end, the best result came form an unexpected place. I found the answer somewhere I had not thought of looking.
I’ll start at the beginning. I like playing sport and I still get competitive! So I thought I’d better slow down a little an join an exercise class or gym, were you don’t need to be the fastest or the strongest.
I calmed my competitive urges in the class and decided exercise is about taking part, and keeping the habit going.
There is always be someone ahead of you in life. Someone else who can run faster or is older but quicker than you. Just get used to it but do your best.
So, I did.
But I did a little too much. I ended up exercising daily. In fact in the end I was at it twice a day sometimes.
We are lucky to have aoutdoors are locally on my doorstep for free walks that can help to keep you active in the fresh air and outdoors.
I made my mind up to walk everywhere as well. Soon I realised I had to improve my way of walking as all this exercise and 30miles of walking a week were taking a great toll on my body.
So that’s when I decide to try the internet for some advice.
I would normally turn to real people face to face but this time I wanted to do something quickly. Mostly because this exercise was taking over my life and I didn’t have long to do anything else.
So, I went on line and found a few sites with various advice and endless bait click.
Gosh I nearly gave up but then came across this nice little bunce of people and their lovely little site with has lots of useful (and some to be honest not so useful) tips and advice and blogs and self help ideas: check them out here http://backblog.co.uk/meet-our-chiropractors-eastbourne/
After a bit more looking about I spotted one more site associated witht heirs which caught my eye https://www.clearlychiropractic.co.uk/ as it has some specific blogs for pregnancy related conditions. But that’s another story I’m not at liberty to share at the moment.
All this advice was there and free on line. I used this tip straight away to improve my walking. I felt great and soon was walking the 30 miles per week to get about without the same stiffness as before.
The advice was to: Think of how you are walking, do you have a heavy tread for example. Try to let the hip joint be free and allow the leg to swing like a pendulum. Be aware of the space around you which can help you expand and breathe more freely.
And of course, you need to do more than that. They also advised: Once in this more relaxed swing try to keep your feet more underneath you and stride out to lessen stiffening of the foot and ankle.
Quite honestly it helped. I also liked their tip on wearing your shoes to help your feet keep their natural shape. I used to have tight fitting hoes which were killing me. They suggested in one blog to trey barefoot walking to stimulates things (I can’t remember what sorry) in the muscles. But my point is it worked I feel great walking now.
