The number of violent toys on the market is disturbing to me. If we are to have any hope at cutting down the amount of violence in our society, we need to start with the children. I think in general, there needs to be an emphasis on less violent toys. We need to teach our children that violence is wrong. We need to teach our children that there are better ways to solve problems. I know that this is a big job. I know that it will not be able to be accomplished in a short time. However, there are little things that we all can do.

The holiday season is a time for love and joy with family and friends. It is also a time of peace. I suggest that during the holiday season all children agree not to play violent games or at least not do these games where people will see them. This is a good first step to cutting down on violence.

Thus, it is upsetting to me that the Hess company would come out with a violent toy. This is especially true during the holidays. Also, there are plenty of other toys that the Hess company could have made. They could have made a truck. They could have made a plane. They did not have to make a violent toy. Finally, they want to make a toy that has some connection to their company. A gas truck is fine, or a cat, etc A fighter plane has no connection to their company.

I propose that nobody buy their toy this year. I propose we all send them a message.
