          Santa Claus is really not all he seems to be.

          He is really a figure created by parents with

          the express purpose of being a scare tactic.

          A scare tactic.

          All children know they need to be good.

          Otherwise, they will not get anything from Santa.

          I heard one mother say she told her child that

          "Santa is watching."

          In addition, children are informed that,

          "He knows when you are sleeping.  He knows when

           you're awake.  He knows when you have been bad or

           good."

    They are advised they should "be good for goodness sake."

    In the mind of a child, somebody who knows all of this,

    without being physically present in their lives

    is very, very, very, scary.
