Common Sense Calls Collect

Membranes were all stripped

As she cried for help,

No one came though

Because no one cared,

She gave birth on the bathroom floor

Of a local convenient store

That at the moment

Was not living up to its name,

A rush of fluid came

And the tears held back

By the biting of a bit

Flew down her sixteen year old cheeks,

What would mom say

If she was still around

To wag the finger,

Would dad twitch

In his one good eye

And grab a switch

Out of the corner of the other,

Your brother isn't here either

And it's bitter sweet

As you're use to the empty corner,

Born in a bathroom

We should all be so lucky

But common sense

Is calling collect

will you accept the charges?

I'm changed by the acts

Of those who make mistakes

As if I was the one who made them,

Maybe I was the one

Or am I metaphor?

Writhing

Twisting

Listening floors

Will kill us

If one wrong step

Is still adored

In a culture of shock

Will you ground me?

If it's not the end of chivalry

Let the flower children sew seeds,

Sate dreams

Leave us in a quickening of stings,

Surround me in leaves

And I'll decay with them,

Blow away with them

and become

Something distant

Would somebody care to care
