My grandfather's paintings
My grandfather's paintings are the things that I can mainly relate to him. There’s no doubt that my granddad was born to paint. During all his life the only thing that he was constant in, was painting, when he worked in the government, he painted. When he worked in the factory, he painted. When he worked as a teacher, he painted. And even when he was too old for working he stilled painted. No matter what event was going on, he was most likely painting. No matter if he had visit, if he was sick or even if there was a holyday party on, he was painting. He painted using oil, watercolour, pencils and wood colors. When I was young, he showed me how to paint and draw. Always since I was born I have seen many of his paintings, at my house, at many aunts houses and especially at my grandparents and automatically remember him. His paints are amazing; through them one can see his way of thinking, acting and view life. These representations were about all kind of things; they narrate history, show emotions delighting its beauty. He illustrated “El Cerro de la Silla” and “Chipinque”. He illustrated entire towns with its people, buildings, animals, and plants. He even painted food. But what he mainly painted was our family, and by this we can now the way that he looked at us and the way that he felt about us. What I found amazing is that he wasn’t recognized or a famous painter, but still he painted as he was getting paid for it! He found his passion in something bigger than the money; one can watch that through his paints he represented all his life with a colour and dynamism that makes one happy. Is amazing that all this paints now when one see them transport us to the past and the places where he lives. One can take a look at his painting and watch Monterrey in the 40th of Mexico City in the 30th. He has paints from the year 1930 to 2000, where he narrates amazing situations. What I found more amazing, is that I realized when making this poem is that this paints are not just representative of him but are of all the family due that he represented many family histories and situations. And now that I’m thinking about this I realize that I probably choose to study Architecture because of him.
