Thirsting for moisture
ground begs to quench.
Waiting patiently for rains
to soak and to drench.
Fields lying withered
dusty and dried.
Longing for refreshment
before they've all died.
Grasses once green
now yellowed and brown.
Lying in anticipation
for clouds to pour down.
Lakes and rivers
reduced to puddles and ponds.
Needing replenishment
before repair is beyond.
Streams and waterfalls
that ran with rapid flow.
Now trickle downward
scant and slow.
Like parched souls
yearning to be revived.
Drought affects life
as it struggles to survive.
