Hold Open the Door

I'm holding on to a lightning bolt on a string
there's nothing we can know about anything
when all sides seem so wrong and you want to get by and along
you can rest assured in knowing I know nothing

I've worked a long time to know myself
I've worked myself away from opportunities and wealth
I'm trying to focus on soft things and my health
and treading gently when I want to bull-in-a-China-shop myself out of this Hellmouth

I want to walk barefoot on the grass
I want to dance naked in the rain
I want to see the sunlight through your hair
and leave you unaffected by my storms and pain

I want to draw a curtain around your heart
I want to make a halo around us
I want us to hide away in the woods alone
until the whole of the earth (has gone by and)looks unknown

One day we'll both turn to stone
if it's you first or my reflection it's unknown
in this world I roam I never could be overthrown
but you are king of the castle in my home

Take heed, take heart and take a shield
take a needle, a tool and a pill
you've got a pen, so won't you write me to un yeild
and let your last word be one that helps me heal

When lightning strikes I hear you roar
all around is chasm where there used to be a floor
and I can't hang on to lightning bolts anymore
Hold open the door, I know nothing at all as before
