My old band is using the name of my old song (changed 90% of the lyrics except the punchline and title) and trying to use it as their own. I did not publish any final material and they were not to use my lyrics because these are my own artistic creations and there was never a final released song before I left the band. Can they do this? The title is Prophets and Pariahs. Very uncommon to find both of those used together injunction with that, and definitely not likely he "created it himself" because its the same music backing it.

Copyright
Go on line and read the copyright forms or query copyright laws regarding music. Duh duh! And know. :D
In Literature
you can't copyright a title. Too common to limit. Can't copyright style either. Again, too common. Lyrics, yes, melodies - see what Motown did to Robin Thick. Send them a warning letter - make sure you get your melody copyrighted before they do. It's first come. - allets -
Mine was recorded before
Mine was recorded before theres, but the album wasn't published or released. There is audio proof mine came first.
