In love with summer
the monstrous insects tick down to freezing
airborne morphine,
I love a lazy saline drip day
each heavy second satisfied
and saturated also with ice pop sugars
blood red spiders, frantic pavements,
mental children grow large in the
thousands of seconds of busy air
their lukewarm birth-right, their summer
Our beers stare lifeless, burp yeast
and wander at the strange desires of
boys to murder spiders in the brilliant
shards of sun.
