Serpent-Chameleon

SERPENT CHAMELEON

When serpents shed their skins

their eyes turn milky.

New hues ensue

and blend with their surroundings.

Fangs dull.

Tongues fuse.

Those they meet

no longer see

a snake,

but shake hands with

a serpent-chameleon,

and never know the truth

until the venom sets in.

Author's Notes/Comments:

A word picture that describes the treachery that takes place among people.

Serpents can be chameleons and you don't know till after they've bitten you.

This is an excellent piece. To the point and I especailly love the way you described the unfortunate truths that lie within the hearts of those who continually hurt others. Definately a straight shot. =O)
