My grandfather uses his belt every single day, it was a beautiful craft belt made in his home town Linares and there’s no other belt like that. He used it on the winter with jackets, in the summer with t-shirts, he used it on a party, he used it on Christmas, I hope that he uses when he was asleep. That belt represent him in a certain way, that craft belt made by hand was used by ranchers, he was a rancher when he was young, his spirit of rancher never left out of him. Should sound sad that he never change his belt, but isn’t, he own that belt, he loved that belt, and he ever used that belt. There was one day that I asked him about it, a smile get out of his face, he take his belt out of his pants, he hold it, and he start talking to me: “This belt was a gift of your grandmother, she know me very well, I loved this belt because I had a belt very alike, when I know her I used that other belt, we were young, and is amazing how she remembered”. That belt to me represents how strong he was, with it he looks like a real Mexican, he look like a rancher. The horse in the belt reminds me his histories, when he was young he was very good with horses, he spend almost all his day on a horse, his histories were amazing, he do everything that a rancher do in those times. Sometimes my grandfather invite me to his ranch, when I spend the day with him I learn a lot of things that he used to do in those times, it was a hard work. I remember that belt, I remember my grandfather and how he used it, that belt represents him and now that he isn’t here I think that the belt is incredible.
I love the way you wrote
I love the way you wrote this. People need to see and appreciate the beauty of a granparent's wisdom more. I have worked with the senior population and they go ignored and even abused too often. Thank you. Lovely writing. <3
...and he asked her, "do you write poetry? Because I feel as if I am the ink that flows from your quill."
"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "
