My cousin’s horse
I can still remember when my cousin took me with her to visit her horse. Her face lit up like Christmas city lights every time she saw Maximus. My cousin always said to me that horses are one of the most sensitive animals in the world and that they are usually shy and protective about themselves. I used to be horrified about the thought of a huge horse around me but seeing her with the biggest smile on her face and staring at his soft dark eyes made that feeling go away in an instant. Maximus was the biggest horse that I have ever seen, he was blonde and had a big white spot on his face. He was the fastest horse in town and he was a little bit wild, he liked to run a lot and was also really good at polo. My cousin always gave him sugar cubes as a treat after playing a match. He hated carrots but loved to eat apples as dessert. One of Maximus favorite things was taking a bath after playing a game. I remember that I sat there for hours watching Maximus and my cousin ride together and it was breathtaking. I loved to watch them jump and run through the air. Every time they were riding on that big green field as one it seemed as if they were chasing the wind. Until the day came when those smiles and laughs became tears and sadness. One Sunday morning when we woke up, we saw that Maximus was not in his usual place. We went looking for him and saw that he was lying down under the shade of a great oak tree. He had a sad face and appeared to be sick. When the doctor came to check on him, he told us that Maximus suffered from colic. Colic is the number one disease that attributes to horse death all around the world. My cousin still says that that day was one of the saddest days in her life. Maximus could no longer exercise and do all the activities that they loved to do because he was dying. From that moment forward, whenever I see a horse I remember how happy my cousin was with him and all the joy that they had when they were together. I will never forget that day and the look on my cousin’s face. And although it was a tragedy, whenever I see a horse a smile runs across my face, due to all the happy moments that my cousin and I had with Maximus.
