Black branches curl before the darkening sky
As gnarled oaks try to fend off the gathering storm
Wet, grey leaves clutch hungrily at my tired feet
While searching, I only further lose my way
Something blacker than shadows moves just out of sight
Its whispers hidden in the wind
Black clouds crush the grey clouds
The sky sinks and the wind stops
A twig snaps under the weight of the silence
It's life forfeit in the woods too long
The last faint light of day leaves me still, afraid to move
Then a distant scream of my future self sends a shiver down my spine
