Acceptance

Stand up for what is holy, but

Don’t spurn the secular,

No light give windows that are shut

And show no blinking star.

The holy and the worldly, both

Cruise in the equal boat,

There was a time when cruisers froze

While traveling towards God.

A ghetto of exclusiveness

Kept pilgrims far apart,

Joy was forbid, so was progress,

And slain the feisty heart

All that HE made, is great and good,

And who would dare rebuff

With arrogant an attitude

What was made by His love.

As yet a child, I quickly learned

Of generous give and take,

The Inquisition would have burnt

This writer on the stake.

Aghast at the sonorous bells

Resounding: “Oyez! Hear!

In stanzas, and  in villanelles,

Pervasive  loud and clear!

Accept, and tolerate, embrace

The unfamiliar,

With curiosity,  but grace

Accept men as they are!.
