Feast of Saint John Chrysostom

Today's the Feast of Saint John Chrysostom,

The Luminary  of the “Golden Mouth”

The name is Greek, -“Gold Mouth” he’s called in Rome,-

He preached to learnèd folks and those uncouth.

Profound his thoughts and his theology,-

His words are treasured in the Christian home,

And meditated on with piety,

And sung in choirs  by Dominas and Dom.

His golden utterances learned by heart,-

Of homilies he wrote so many a tome,

He too was great in the poetic art,-

With words that tasted of the  honeycomb.

Today’s the Feast of  Saint John Chrysostom,

The bishop- with the golden tongue  and  mouth,

Who spreads his wings wide over  Templin John,*

I pray he has some words left for a Louse!
