Just You and Me Alone

Words fail to express
All that lies within my heart
The fears and the distress
That come while we're apart

So now I humbly start
To intercede by prose
And hopefully impart
The love that in me grows

God Almighty Knows
Just how much you are missed
I hope this poem shows
Just how much I insist

On holding on to you
No matter the miles between
You are my diamond, true
and you are my beauty queen

The world has never seen
A woman quite like thee
There is no earthly scene
To match your true beauty

I could go from sea to sea
Or travel the whole world wide
But there's no place I'd rather be
Than right there by your side

And there I would abide
If it be the will of God
But I continue now to stride
And further on to trod

But one day on this sod
I will look to my right
You'll give a gentle nod
You'll then be in my sight.

I'll then enjoy the night
I'll no longer lonely be
I'll bravely fight the fight
With you here beside me

Let be what now must be
I'll endure this for the time
While all I feel for thee
May rest in line and rhyme

Future thoughts sublime
Now run through my head
It's just a matter of time
When fears will all have fled

And tears that we have shed
Will be as seeds we've sown
We'll reap joy where once was dread
Just you and me alone.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I wrote this for a girl I once loved. Sometimes God's greatest gifts, though, are unanswered prayers.
