Reaching deep within herself
She ripped out her own heart
For if she had no heart
How could she be hurt
Reaching deep within
She found an untouched passion
But having never been touched in a way
To ignite the flames
She let it die away
What matter she had no heart anyway
Reaching deep within herself
She nearly drowned in waves of tears
But a wall she expertly built
And a smile placed as a protection spell
What better to protect
The empty cavern within?
Everyday she painted fake happiness on her face
Laughed and sung to a charade
Yet even with no heart to hurt
Loneliness begun to smirk
As he thrust his knife deep within
The hollow space where her heart should have been
And though she shouldn’t have felt a thing
Her protection walls suddenly caved in
And the outpour of grief and pain
Was almost more than her heart could take
For although locked away where she thought it safe
Her heart still absorbed all her pain
Still she fought with all she had
To stave away the misery
Slowly she rebuilt the wall
But this time not nearly as strong
And hope saw through her thin disguise
But she turned away from so small a light
Even as her tears were harder to hide
As once again loneliness forced his way inside
And from deep within echos of her heart rang out
“Put me back, for you are in too much pain without”
She once again rebuilt her wall
To try and protect her fragile treasure
But gently love knocked it down
While more of hopes light was to be found
Less and less she painted a smile
Reaching deep within
She found a happiness in her heart
And though she still felt the immeasurable weight of pain
Her smiles were no longer always paint
Reaching even further inside
She found the flames
To ignite the passion long ignored
Her heart returned to it’s rightful place
She no longer fought
With echos of a missing heart
