Can I toast to the heroes,
These modern day men
Whose names will echo throughout time.
The impact you've all left on
Young men and women
Is what keeps us in a tranquil state of mind.
Can I hear your stories once again,
Sit at your feet as you speak into my soul?
Your baritone voice fills the chilly room,
Your smile pierces through the cold.
Can we take one more trip,
Destination unknown?
I want my hero at my side.
Listen to the sound of the engine,
And your all-knowing wisdom
Vibrations in the air as you drive.
Can I have one more moment
To hug your neck?
Let you know that I love you
and how much I respect,
All the love you had shown
When I felt neglect,
Never wanting to let
Go nor forget this feeling which kept
This boy content and in check.
Though she tried, Mom's never could get
Another man to teach me the way in which you did.
Always kind, yet stern never resorting to whip.
Can I have have my hero back?
Why did you leave so soon?
When I entered the room,
You lay wrapped in a fabric cocoon...
Lifeless...
Silence...
Heartache...
Gloom...
They buried part of me
With your descent to the tomb.
Can I be half the man you were:
Role model, friend,
Father, philosopher?
Will my presence brighten children's lives?
Infinite joy in spreading knowledge to husbands and wives.
Can I lead like you led me as a lost young child?
Mind running wild, you took my hand and
Brought me down that church aisle.
Can I be half the hero which you were for me?
My name and legacy survive throughout eternity.
Yes I can! You taught me at times I may fail
But where the enemy plans reeks Hell,
I will REBUILD!
Where they have beaten, mistreated, & killed,
I will give LIFE! ENLIGHTEN! HEAL!
Where they have taken our heroes to an early grave,
I will REFURBISH foundational values Our ancestors paved!
I will carry on Your teachings,
Get the Masses to comprehend,
Our time on Earth is short,
Give back while you still can.
We Don't Die.
