As I stood along the quiet rails
It came to me that sadly
No one ever had said
What life was lived
On the other side of those quiet rails
I peered low and long but could not see
Who must be thriving
On the other side of those quiet rails
I cupped my ear to listen
But heard no sounds coming
From the other side of those quiet rails
And there was life there just the same
Endless ribbon of iron and wood
That so aptly kept me apart
As I stood and waited my entire life
On the other side of the quiet rails
