Only a Dream, Thank Goodness.

Another rough night with one weird dream following the other, either I change my bed or leave off my sleeping tablet. The last dream before I awoke with a thick head and a terrible thirst was the worse. Saint Peter refused me admittance at the Pearly Gates. More or less told me to go to Hell. Strangely enough I was not offended in any way, possibly because I await such an action when my time finally arrives and I really have to go to one or the other places as prophesied by quite a few people in my life.

How it happened I have no idea suddenly I was standing before a huge table. The heat was terrible sitting around the table were Devils not like the pictures one sees of devils in pictures. These men and women were all fitted with wings over each of their heads were halo’s not the halos one sees above Angels heads these were not golden halos all were in shades of black. Suddenly one of the Devils stood up from the table and in a voice that sounded like peels of thunder, asked me what was I doing in this unhallowed place. I had no right to be here. At a signal from the Devil that spoke all of the devils stood up and sang a dirge that if I was not already to pass out with the terrific heat I would have fainted. From somewhere a bucket of cold water was thrown over my head. A drink of excellent wine appeared before my face. The dirge stopped and a voice said, “Drink of the nectar of Hell then be gone from this unhallowed place you do not belong here.

My next consciousness was of standing again at the Pearly Gates. Saint Peter smiled and said. “Even the Devils do not want you, Go back to where you came from. You will have to wait your turn like all of the others.” “Now be gone,”

I had a feeling of falling, falling fast and I was not ready for the landing. My eyes opened and I was lying on the floor next to my bed. The dream for that was what it was is indelibly etched into my brain. The devil Lucifer does not have a tail and is very good looking the only thing that puts him apart from the Angels are the Halo’s above their heads. Angels have golden haloes and Devils from deep black to shades of grey. I did not see any fires in Hell but the heat is terrific to make up for the heat I must say the elixir I was given to drink was really out of this world. I am now wondering if I too will be standing at the table with the other Devils perhaps even next to Lucifer. That would I am sure be much better that sitting on a cloud eating manna and playing a harp. The idea of speaking to each newcomer as they enter Hell has its attractions for me.

I know I would like to meet and welcome even you the reader of this small piece of prose. Bern
