Merlin’s Prophecy.
The wise old owl first told me of Merlin’s Prophecy. It has been passed down from one wise old owl to the next. It was an owl that shared Merlin’s quarters that heard the prophecy first. It was too good not to be told to its line of descendants. Merlin foretold the future from time to time especially after a course of deep meditation. The forecasts would pour out of him. This one prophecy concerned the owls in particular. It would be that one-day an owl would rule the world. This prophecy has caused all owls since to pay particular attention to all that goes on around them.
I was now interested and asked the owl what else did Merlin prophecy. The human race would die out only the birds would be able to live on owing to their ability to fly. I must say I protested that we humans can also fly in huge machines that carry over two hundred passengers. The owl seemed to smile as she said, “Have you developed wings can you fly up to the bough that I am perched upon?” I had to admit that as far as my knowledge went there is no human being that has wings and can fly.
The owl is just trying to get me to repeat his prophecy there was only one thing to do that was to ask Queen Feeanna to take me back to the time of the prophecy so that I could hear for myself what Merlin really said. Her Majesty agreed to send me back to the time of Merlin and his stay in King Arthur’s Castle. The travel by magic is something that I cannot describe is leaves a queasy feeling in ones tummy but apart from that no ill effects. I blinked my eyes to get accustomed to the light. The light came from a dozen or more wax candles.
Against the light perched on a bough cut from a tree was an owl. The owl blinked at me a couple of times. I then saw Merlin who was sitting cross-legged on a roughly hewn table of wood. To the left and right of Merlin were glasses and phials of many coloured fluids. The rest of the table was cluttered with scraps of parchment and not only on the table but also strewn around the room as if thrown away in anger were quills used for writing.
Merlin began to speak in a high-pitched voice. The time will come when man will leave this planet to go far into space to visit other worlds. All that will be left will be ruins that nature will slowly hide with lush vegetation. Only ants and birds will be left on this world. One may say that an owl will rule over this deserted world. That is what I see for the future of this world.
I felt the pull again of travelling by magic and found myself under the tree where the wise old owl was perched. Blinking one’s eyes seems be to a habit with owls this one was no exception. Now I had a problem should I tell the owl what Merlin had really forecast or should I leave her in the belief that one day an owl would rule this world. To be honest I did not have the heart to tell the owl and she has probably passed on Merlin’s prophecy to her own young ones that will surely tell it to their own offspring. Bern
