Down in the Dumps.
How often does one hear this expression? I hope not to often. It is a condition where one if physically in order but mentally one is out on a piece of wood floating in some river. It is how deep your mood is how swift the river flows. A dark deep mood the water is sluggish your speed is slow and many are the obstacles in your way. In a more lighter mood the river is fast and you seem to be getting somewhere fast.
How do I know this? It is simple really I get into and out of such moods every day or two. It is rather the same as depression. No!!! Worse than depression it is as if your own little world is falling about your head, you do not feel the same man that you were yesterday. Something in your world has happened, something has thrown you off balance your small world is capsizing and there is nothing that you feel you can do about things.
You are wrong my friend, very wrong there is something you can do. Go out for a walk in the country, oh! You live in a town, good go out into one of the town’s parks. Keep you eyes open, see all that is around you. Are you worse off than that poor beggar pleading for a few coppers for a meal? See the Flowers, I am convinced that the flowers were placed here on earth for the benefit of mankind. Not because an accident happened and one of God’s helpers dropped a bag of seed, which spread quickly around this world making it a prettier place than it was before the heavenly plants and flowers were dropped purely by accident on this world of ours.
You still do not believe me, it is you say easier for me I have someone that will and does help me when I get into this mood. You are right of course; I do have something, not someone, which helps me. Myself I do what I have just told you to do. I go out into the fresh air; I try to see the world with other eyes. I see what is going on around me. Why do those children beg on the streets of the town, why are so many women dressed so poorly, is such a rich country so hard up that we cannot look after the peoples that exist on the streets of our once proud town?
One of these beggars tried to stop me from entering the Church the other day. I was told that to enter I would have to place money in her hand. I had two choices. Call a Policeman or do what I did I picker up bodily and had a free entrance to the Church. What would you have done; given her money to get out of an embarrassing situation. In my indignation I picked her up and made myself a passage into the Church. A Policeman would have sent her off with a warning, I guarantee that the Church doorway was the best place to get money from someone that is going in to a place of worship to say a few prayers, remembering even that beggar in their prayers. But does that really help a person that has nothing, with no expectations of any kind. I think not. Whereas if I had given her money it would encourage her to stay where she was to do her begging.
This is why I advise you to get out into the country or in the parks of your town see how nature settles things see the Marvels all around you the trees, the bushes, the flowers not to mention all of the wild life.
Get out into the fresh air your dumps disappear. Stay indoors in your four walls, are always a bore. Your scribbler airing a few problems if you too are a person in the dumps do as I suggest pay Nature a visit. Bern.
