She was no Lady.

I got off the bus and was, I admit not looking where I was going. Suddenly I bumped into this very pretty young woman. To say she knocked me off my feet would be no mistake. The smile she gave me when I apologised caused my heart flatter like a teenager. She walked on and I was in two minds to go after her one only has one such chance in life or so I thought.

Later after my interview for a job I again bumped into the same pretty young thing. I smiled and said, “Must not make a habit of this I might hurt you.” Oh! No she said. “You could never hurt me.” Something about this pretty young thing got me to thinking, I knew her from somewhere but could not think from where. Being a gentleman I asked if I could escort her to a small but very discreet coffee shop.

To my surprise she said yes she would like to spend a while with me. Now I know that I am not some handsome buccaneer that women fall for. It seems that this sweet young thing could become my future wife if I played my cards right. I escorted her to a seat and the waitress served us coffee and I asked my new acquaintance if she would like something to eat one of the small cakes that this coffee shop was famous for. I then thought it time to tell her my name, She smiled and said, “Do not bother I know your name Shaw Bernard.” My hair stood up on end only one person had ever called me Shaw Bernard and that was Satan or Old Nick. I stood up and said, “Good try, and I suppose your name is Devilling or something similar.”

The pretty young lady vanished before my eyes and sitting opposite me was Satan in person, How did you know it was me my disguise was perfect you could not have known it was me, what gave me away? It was now my turn to smile, I could say your stink gave you away or that I could see the mark that God placed on your head but no I will not tell you. You must find it out for yourself. I paid for the coffee and left Old Nick sitting at the table for two. The waitress probably thought that I was very rude for having left the pretty young thing all on her own. Two or three paces and I heard a scream from the coffee shop. Old Nick must have changed his disguise but I was not going back to see what had taken place after I left the shop.

Needless to say I am now on my toes for such meetings, who knows what the Devil’s next disguise might me. If you are a Priest or a Vicar or some other Church member please do not be put off by my rudeness for all I know you might be the devil in disguise and I must protect myself until it is time for me to enter Hell and fight him on his own ground. Here on earth I am fairly safe but with Old Nick one never knows. Keep safe from your scribbler Bern.
