Songs

VERSE 1:

A

The Lord of Heaven

D                          E7                  A

said I must forgive seventy times seven.

D                                          A

But sometimes, my stubborn heart won't budge

D                                          A

Sometimes, it's hard to let go of a grudge

A                             D                E

Sometimes, it's hard to let go of pain and anger

A                                          E

Sometimes, I'd rather let my mind linger

D

on my selfish plots of revenge.

A                        D

On evil thoughts, it's easy to binge;

A

But, the Lord of Heaven

D                          E7                  A

said I must forgive seventy times seven.

CHORUS:

D

Yeah, the Lord of my heart

A

commands me to swiftly depart

G

from my selfish ways,

D

from the angry haze

A

that clouds my simple mind.

G                             A

In forgiveness, peace I find.

VERSE 2:

The Lord of Heaven

helps me forgive seventy times seven

so that I may show, so that I may show

the amazingly awesome love, I surely know

He has for for everyone—each one of us.

Yeah to reflect on His love, I must

put my bitter anger behind me

or else, I'll never be free.

Help me, Lord of Heaven,

to forgive seventy times seven.

(REPEAT CHORUS 3Xs)

Author's Notes/Comments:

A former teacher approached me at my day job and suggested I write a song about Jesus' command to forgive 70X7.  After giving it some thought, this is what I came up with.  This one is for you, Mr. Long.
