I see it in their faces...
Young and bold
Trained and ready
Determined and patriotic.
Carrying the weight of a divided country
On their sleeves
And really not sure where they
Fit into the bigger plan.
For the first time I understand their pain...
Not knowing what it really feels like
To take the breath from another soul
Who wants to do the same to you.
Knowing that in the act of war
It's okay for me to kill...
It is perfectly acceptable for me
To disregard the sanctity of
Human life...to be God.
I see them lying there...
Symbols of the battle being fought
Circumstantial collateral...blood on blood.
And as I look beyond their lifeless eyes
I see their families, their friends, their dreams.
And to the bigger me that I button up
In my dress blues,
It just doesn't matter
What color their skin is,
What God they serve,
What flag they salute...
Sunrise, sunset
How quickly we seem to forget
Who we really are...
Mother's sparkle
Father's Pride
But, this is war...
Someone lied.
Kill him before he kills you
Breathe once, breathe no more.
Time to heal the pain
For lifeless eyes
To live again.
War is hell.
