Whisper painted brilliance
Scores the midnight skies
Sweet adagio born of wind
Reflected in your eyes.
Best intentions fading
Claims the light and fails to glow
Buried deep in ashes
Once the dream begins to grow.
I tasted ever afters
Dipped my heart in something more
And I hid behind the verbage
Now confetti on the floor.
But, I never saw the thunder
Perched in ambush for attack
Never dreamed the horseman
Would swing once then fade to black.
And, I never felt the anguish
That now bleeds from soul’s decay
Tossed as rubbish ‘neath the shadows
Where the lonely people play.
Oh, I’ll find a new horizon
Where my words will bring me peace
And, I’ll look for her in shooting stars
To bring my sweet release.
And someday I may just find the pause
If lightning stains the sky
To give my soul unto the wind
Once more before I die.
And know that perfect passion
Furrowed deep into the void
Where once the roots were nurtured
By sweet words long since deployed.
Oh God, that I might just replay
To feel my wrath as rain
And take the road I didn’t choose
To salvage misery’s pain.
Wouldst thou not send her back to me
Sweet child of tender charms
I’d gladly trade the stars of night
To rest within her arms.
