I was going to play it out
until he noticed me.
I didn't care if it stormed
or if I sunburned.
I wouldn't have cared if
I'd had to ride a donkey
naked down Central Avenue
in a blinding hailstorm.
We ran in the same crowd;
he was always there,
but he never noticed me.
All those years, he
never noticed...
But that one night,
I sat on a bench at the pier
eating cherries marinated
in bourbon, ripe and red.
Ate every one of them,
feeling tipsy.
And there he stood...
looking amazingly like
the incredible hulk.
"Kinda wasted, are we?"
he asked. "Have we met?"
"No Sir, I ain't from around here."
