There is a tender legend
of a lovely butterfly
that flew upon the deathbed
of a man about to die.
He opened pale and weakened eyes
and watched it fly away
outside the window to the grave
of a maiden named Akiokae
They had been betrothed to wed
many years ago
but just before their wedding day
death bade the bride to go
And so it was, as death breaths came,
the butterfly came for him;
they flew to the Land of the Yellow Spring
where love shall know no end.
And so the legend lives this day,
true love shall never die;
and with my dying breath I'll pray,
Oh come, my butterfly.
