I promised I would
write him poems forever...
Silence is more musical
than any verse I sing;
and I can find sweet stillness
in a silent peaceful stream.
The beauty of a Dixie night
enhanced by words withdrawn;
in my silent pen I find
the wonder of the dawn.
In quiet hours, morning light,
the skybound angels hear
the silence of my music
with understanding ear.
For me, come the daybreak,
the mockingbirds will sing,
and as I fight the teardrops,
I lay down my well-worn pen.
When my heart is silent
and my pen just cannot sing,
my heart still wears a token
of a love beyond all things.
