And stand together yet not too near together;

For the pillars of the temple stand apart.

Kahlil Gibran, "The Prophet"

Evenings are the hardest.

In brick-bound warmth, I write,

trying to balance light and dark,

past and future.

In the worst scenario,

we will not resolve our differences,

and perhaps I will never love again.

Yet, reflecting on our commitment,

I can still see a future with you.

I love you more than I thought

I could ever love anyone.

But I’m leaving it to you,

for my world can be comfortable,

with or without you.
