My Grandmother´s rosary

I remember how every Christmas night, my Grandmother would always take out a beautiful and colorful rosary. She was so attached to that one specially, because it was the one that she uses every Christmas that we get together. The reason for this was that all of the family every year gets together to celebrate the birth of child Jesus. It has become a tradition, because we are a catholic family, praying has been something my Grandmother taught us, all of their nieces went to a Catholic school, so we are all really into this tradition. On that night we have on the table a delicious dinner which every family member contributes on the making, there are tamales, smashed potatoes, sweet salad,a big and juicy turkey and every year there is an extra which the boyfriend of my cousin brings, it is always a surprise, and who does not love surprises? Even more if it is about food. But the smell is simply amazing, you can see the hunger of everyone increasing as we see the incredible dinner, we feel so proud by just watching it, because it takes a lot of time and effort to make a complete dinner for Christmas night. We pray all of the rosary first, my Grandmother never let us eat if the family is not complete and we have already ended the prays. My Grandmother, is the guide, she starts by saying the Rose Mary, then she passes the rosary to some niece, and one by one we say the prays until she gets it again and finish. After praying we put the baby Jesus under the pine tree, which is always in the corner of the dining room, and it has lights, spheres, decorations, and the most incredible thing is that you can listen to a beautiful Christmas song that plays along the flashing lights, so it is really a nice scene that everyone enjoys watching, it cheers everyone up to see and hear something that amazing. Also the beauty of this scene is that, it is the only time in the year that we can all share a good time, because all of us are always busy with our lives, and being together, sharing stories of our year, laughing, singing and dancing, makes it my favorite day of all, every member of the family is present, and you can feel the mood of love and happiness. My Grandmother tradition connect us in a spiritual level, and one thing she always says on Christmas night, is that a family that pray together, stays together.
