Pain

There's something stangely sweet in pain;

Something oddly satisfying and peaceful.

Like gently decending drops of rain,

It sooths and lightens the outward care.

Painful, yes, but subtly addicting;

Take me again! O merciless king!

To my shameful desire continue feeding

Lest my ears should hear, keep up the ringing!

Outside these tears lies a world of hate;

Let them in and they will kill you I swear!

Thanks to dear pain I'm safe from their slate.

Safe and sound in my lonely lair.

Dear, beautiful soul,

The sight of your hopeless surrender causes my heart to ache.

Your surrender is to a heart as black as coal.

Listen to me for your own life's sake!

They that hurt you reflect the world indeed;

They'll rip your heart open every time.

They don't care for your smallest need.

Let them in and they will leave their grime.

But dear soul, there is One Who is different!

The pain you feel pales in comparison to his agony;

He feels your pain and weeps in lament.

He reaches for your heart desperately!

Let Him in and your pain will abate;

He will take fimly ahold and plunge it from your heart.

Jealously He'll steal your precious, painful state.

King of your life, Himself He'll impart.

But dear one, a new addiction will you take!

An addiction that grows love, not hate.

Your new King's love will make you anew!

Above all, His work is great.

So come now, to the only One you can truly trust.

His awesome plan will change your fate.

To truly live, He is a must.

But come quickly lest your current slave state

Drag you down and make pain your eternal date!

Author's Notes/Comments:

I wrote this after seeing someone hurt so badly that she gave up all hope of healing.
