I used to think it funny,
When people said:
“This is the first day of the rest of your life!”
Yet, NOW,
I understand.
I was afraid to list my phone number,
UNDER MY REAL NAME.
I was even afraid to write poems,
UNDER MY REAL NAME.
I wanted to publish my novel that I just finished,
UNDER MY REAL NAME.
I HAD listed my phone under a phony name,
I HAD gotten my account on my poetry page changed,
I HAD listed several other accounts under other names.
And I HAD my mail forwarded.
All this happened because I feared my ex-wife.
It has been eight months since we broke up,
And it’s time to set the record straight.
My life is mine,
I have me to finish,
And I can’t do that,
HIDING,
Everything God made me to be.
My post is listed back UNDER MY REAL NAME,
My novel will be published UNDER MY REAL NAME,
(When that day gets here.)
My phone is now, UNDER MY REAL NAME,
And my mail will not continue to be forwarded.
Never again will I HIDE, nor will I discard,
MY REAL NAME.
Yes, this is a brand new day,
Rejoice, rejoice, and I WILL BE GLAD IN IT.
THIS IS
THE FIRST DAY---OF THE REST---OF MY LIFE!
Nice piece. Congrats to you for regaining YOUR life.
