Truth in a Deceit

A life worth living
Filled with luxuries, far and wide
Of silver and gold
And jewels of every size
Feasts by the day
Fine wines, meats and ryes
Is such a life meaningful
When it was built upon lies?

For deceit is a hard catch, hard to see
Invisible to the eye
Evasive as a mouse
A fox’s cunning, and just as sly
Every word spoken
A truth in disguise
The poison-drenched syllables
Of a deadly snake who hides

Not concerned with those around them
The deceiver ruins lives
Crushes the hopes, dreams
Of those upon them for which they set their sights
And yet even the foul corrupter
Is not immune to that which they belie
For soon what started small
Becomes a silky web of lies
Ensnared in a knot
Forgetting where and how they tie

Ah yes justice is served
Ending in naught but a cry
The truth is always revealed
No matter the amount of time that has passed by
And yet in this world
Where honesty is a golden prize
There exists a sinister truth
Of a much darker dye

In the realm of mortals…
Everyone can lie…

Author's Notes/Comments:

I thought this up due to recent events that happened to me through a liar and their games. That person cost me something very dear to me, and even though I am sour towards it, harbor no anger or ill-will. As I thought more about it, I merely began to see that in this world... sometimes the best liar will win, no matter who they hurt. However, I am also calm because I believe very highly in karma. And as the poem states...everyone can lie...even a small white lie to make someone feel better, you know? In the end, no matter how you justify it to yourself or others, a lie is a lie, and there are times when doing so isn't as bad as other times...so long as you don't continue and make it a habit. That's when problems begin. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it.
