Rencounter
Amanda is a nineteen-year-old girl who lives in Conneticut. She had a neighbor named John. John and Amanda had always liked each other but they really never got a chance to be together. When they finally had the chance to be together John got accepted at a college in California so he went to live there for four long years.
Turns out John had just arrived from California. Amanda was going shopping with some friends so she got out of her house and John was walking his dog. John greeted Amanda with great enthusiasm. Amanda was secretly excited too but she didn’t show it. She was still upset about what had happened last time.
¨Would you like to go to a Chinese restaurant to catch up? ¨ said John.
¨Yeah, it would be great why not. ¨ said Amanda.
¨We can go during lunch time¨ said John
¨Oh, I am sorry. I can’t, I’m going out with my friends. But we could go at dinner time.¨
¨That’s perfect, for dinner it is then.¨said John.
¨See you later¨said Amanda.
Amanda went to the shopping center with her friends and she bought a casual blue dress at Forever 21 for her meeting with John. John always said that blue looked good on Amanda.
It was already six’o clock and John knocked at Amanda’s house.
¨Coming¨said Amanda. She opened the door.
¨Hello, which Chinese restaurant do you prefer the one that is a mile ahead or the other one ?¨ said John.
¨ I actually like more the one that is a mile ahead, their food is better even though the other one is nicer¨ said Amanda.
¨As you wish¨said John.
On the way to the restaurant Amanda could see that John was really nervous and worried. She had no idea what was with him. At the Chinese restaurant, they ordered their food and no one was talking. Amanda asked John what was he so worried about.
¨Amanda¨ John said.
¨I´ve got something really important to tell you. I know we haven’t talked in a long time and that you’re still upset but I have always known that you are someone I can count with¨ John said.
¨Okay. What is it ? ¨ said Amanda.
¨You have to promise me you won’t tell anyone¨said John.
¨I promise¨ said Amanda.
¨Have you realized that we are not in the usual table we order ? We are at the corner. It is of great importance not to say anything and don´t get mad¨said John.
¨Okay, okay spill it.¨said Amanda.
The waiter approached, and they ordered Thai chicken and noodles and two fortune cookies.
¨I’ve always wanted to tell you this. I love you, I really do but we can’t be together. It is too dangerous. If we are together, I’m putting your life at risk too. At first, I did leave for studying, but I then got hired for a job by the government. The bad guys are now chasing me. That’s why I dyed my hair. I’ve got a new identity and I am leaving the United States for good. For my family’s own good. I was told to say nothing to anyone about this project but I must leave the city immediately. I am starting my life all over again if I want to have peace again.¨ said John.
¨I’m speechless. I don’t know what to tell you. You just can’t leave me here. I want to go with you.¨ Amanda said.¨
¨I am sorry, you can’t. Here´s your fortune cookie I’ve got to go.¨ John said.
John took his fortune cookie and left Amanda all by herself at the restaurant she was astonished by everything that had happened so fast. She opened the fortune cookie and read the following message¨If you want to come with me do so. I’ll be waiting for you at the corner of St. Germain Street at midnight. Don’t be late; if you don’t come I´ll understand. Know that if you do come, everything in your life will be different and you will probably won’t see your family again. J. ¨
She took her time to think thoroughly after all it was a life changing decision. Amanda finished her food and went rapidly to her house. Her life was about to change.
