THE ONE NO ONE EXPECTED

She wasn’t the type to scream harassment, or even once voice her opinion much.

She loved to talk, but worked very hard, and smiled with each passing day.

She even thought she was too different for it to happen to her.

She didn’t really fit into the crowd.

But what is harassment anyway?

Does it count if it’s outside the workplace?

I guess it’s just a matter of principle she thought.

It must just be my turn.

My friend went through tin with another male worker.

Maybe I just come across too friendly.

He tells me that things done outside of work don’t count,

that he is in a management position, and has been here longer.

It’s not really his attitude that bothers me.

It’s what he does when I’m at home.

I never expected to be one of the many women in the statistic.

I just ry and get my things done and go.

She says to herself, “why is this happening to me?

I try to be calm when he’s around, not showing my uncomfortable feelings.

She’s been offered another job some place else,

although she enjoys the one she’s at.

The dilemma stands: should she turn it in?

Or should she walk away?

Author's Notes/Comments:

Going through my old disks i found this poem.  My editor asked me to add it. It is from my past, a former employer beack in the nineties.  I hope this helps someone.
