Solitary Tear
I thought of you today
and no, I didn’t cry.
Just one quiet tear
slipped from my eye.
It doesn’t mean the ache is gone,
or that I’ve healed in any way.
It only means I’ve found the strength
to live through one more day.
Each day without you
feels like losing breath.
Each night without you
is a vigil with no rest.
I think of you always
the love we used to share.
I still don’t understand
why you left, or if you cared.
I swore I wouldn’t do this,
wouldn’t break again today.
But damn it, how could you?
How could you leave me this way?
