He looks at me with those eyes as blue as an ocean
his face cracked wide open with a smile
the chip in his right canine tooth a reminder of last summer
my heart swells as i hold out a shaking hand to meet his much larger one
im swallowed by him, his hands, his presence, the way he makes me feel
his rough pinky wraps around mine
i chuckle a rough burst from my lungs when he leans into kiss me
his face flushes scarlet while his brain rushes to find where he went wrong
a simple mistake of a gesture of friendship as something much more
he looks at me with eyes as grey as the coming storm
his heart cracked like the desert after a long drought
the blood pooling under the skin as he pinches his wrist tight to keep from screaming
my heart falls as i try to reach out for his shaking arm
im swallowed by the feeling of betrayal
he shakes me off and goes to leave
i reach out for his pinky and clutch it with my much smaller hand
"you promised to stay" i whisper and tug him back down beside me
"i need you more now than ever friend"
"friend" he says his eyes cast downward
i giggle and wrap my arms around his neck pulling him closer
i hear him sigh and sink into me
i know he would never break the pinky promise
its as sacred to him as the bible is to a christian
or the stars and the moon are to me
